On Friday, Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a significant speech at the Conference Marking the 70th Anniversary of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence.
Against this backdrop, then Chinese premier Zhou Enlai put forward in full these principles — mutual respect for each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, mutual non-aggression, mutual non-interference in each other’s internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit, and peaceful coexistence — to guide international relations. The goal of Chinese diplomacy is to foster interactions among nations founded on mutual respect and equality, while working to enhance the international order toward fairness, justice and mutually beneficial cooperation.
