Nearly one-fifth of Ireland’s electricity is used by data centres

While data centres use up around 1 per cent on average of a European country’s electricity demand, in Ireland, large-energy users (mainly data centres) used up 18 per cent of the country’s metered electricity in 2022. According to Google’s latest Environment Report, the company consumed 5.6 billion gallons of water in 2022.
